Samina Azad’s technical background is in design and applications of nano- and composite materials. Samina has 12+ years of experience in healthcare, materials and packaging industry, leading cross-functional R&D teams and developing next-generation products. She has designed and commercialized 100+ new products for these markets. Samina moved to Saint Louis when she joined PLZ in 2018 and has been involved with the Local ACS section since.
Samina has been serving ACS members in various leadership capacities since 2008. She was a Councilor of the Cleveland Local Section for 4 years (2008-2011). She has been a member of the Women Chemists Committee (WCC) since 2009 and the Public Relations Chair for the Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (I&EC) Division since 2018. Samina is also a volunteer career consultant and has been coaching ACS members in job-search strategies and professional advancement. In the next couple of years, Samina plans to work on ways to increase communication between academia and the other local employment sectors (industry, government, non-profit, etc.) so that student members have a clear understanding of the available career pathways, and they can focus on building a diverse professional network early on.
Samina has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from University of Wisconsin and held two postdoctoral research positions at Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL) and Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology at Rice University. She has 30+ scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
