Dr William H Doub received a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of California–Riverside. He also has a MS in Analytical Chemistry from the same institution and a BS in Chemistry from California Polytechnic State University in Pomona. After a postdoctoral year at the University of Kentucky and another at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Bill joined the Chemistry faculty at Saint Louis University. As an Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Saint Louis University, he was hired by the US Food and Drug Administration as a Science Advisor. Bill eventually became a full-time employee of the US FDA, enjoyed a 30-year career with them, and retired in December, 2014.
In his position as a senior peer-reviewed Research Chemist at the FDA, Bill specialized in complex pharmaceutical dosage forms such as inhalation and transdermal drug delivery systems. In that capacity, he explored new technologies to ascertain their utility for analysis and characterization of these products.
Dr Doub has been a member of the Saint Louis Section, ACS for more than 40 years and has served on the High School Program and Investment Committees; as the Chemical Bond photographer, assistant editor, and business manager (1998); Membership Chair; Director; St Louis Award Chair; Treasurer; Midwest Award Chair; Alternate Councilor; Awards Committee Chair; Program Committee Chair; and in the section Chair succession. Dr Doub was also a founding member and first Chairperson of the Greater Saint Louis Regional Discussion Group of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
