Understanding the Identity of the Latino: Fighting Conscious and Unconscious Biases Latin People Encounter at Work
Fighting stereotypes that plague minority groups is a key aspect to improving diversity at any workplace. The threat of being stereotyped has been shown to not only have an effect on minorities by the way they engage at work, but by having an influence in their leadership, entrepreneurship, and competitiveness. A way to fight these detrimental stereotypes that lead to some of the conscious and unconscious biases we may have against minority members we work with, is by furthering our understanding of their culture and identity. The aim of this workshop is to help participants understand the diversity of Latin people that are present in the United States and that we may work with. By learning about the diversity of their identity and the diversity present in this multi-racial community, we can help destroy the typical and detrimental stereotypes that currently exist of Latin Americans in our society.
