The 2014 Recognition Night was held on Saturday March 8th, at Maggiano’s Little Italy. The evening started with appetizers and a slide show of 2013 section activities. There was one 60-year ACS member, Dr Robert Schultz, in attendance and three 50-year members: Drs Frank Stary, Neil Dunski, and Jim Meador.
Following dinner, each 50- and 60-year ACS members received a certificate from the ACS. The 2014 Distinguished Service Award from the St Louis Section–ACS was presented to Sheryl Loux, who was honored for her many outreach activities including “Kids’n Chemistry” and “Chemistry is pHun.”. Nine past St Louis Section Chairs (chair year) attended, in addition to the current chair:
- Lol Barton (1980)
- Benjie Outlaw (1988)
- Donna Friedman (1992)
- Hal Harris (1994)
- Leah O’Brien (2003)
- Ted Gast (2005)
- Steve Kinsley (2007)
- Keith Stine (2008)
- Ziad Ramadan (2013)
- Jim O’Brien (current)
The evening finished with a presentation by the immediate past chair, Ziad Ramadan, who spoke on food preferences and metabolic markers. Did you know that some men are indifferent to chocolate? Remarkable!
In addition to the selected photos in this gallery, our photojournalist par excellence, Vic Lewchenko, has kindly shared his Flickr photostream of the event. See here even more happy people, smiles, pride, and chocolate.
