Monday April 15 was the 2013 ACS Awards Night at the Maggiano’s Little Italy in Brentwood. The evening honored our region’s Outstanding College Juniors, and winners of the High School Chemistry Contest. The Chemical Science and Technology Award and High School Chemistry Teacher Award were also presented. There were 125 people in attendance, including the award winners, professors and mentors, parents, and ACS members.
The winners of the High School Chemistry Contest were presented by Myron Reese of McKendree College with help from Ziad Ramadan. Award certificates and checks were presented to the 1st through 5th place winners in both the regular and advanced divisions, and to students in each division receiving an honorable mention. Eight of these students earned the … ummm … privilege of vaulting an even more difficult hurdle, the Chemistry Olympiad qualifying test. You can see all the winners, their places, and their mentors here.
Michael Hauser presented the Outstanding College Junior Chemistry Student Awards. Each area chemistry department selects its winning student, and we recognize them at Awards Night. As you can see, some of the departments had a rough time picking one outstanding student, so they appointed co-winners.
