The STL-ACS Minority Affairs Committee hosted its first panel discussion in an ongoing series. Serving on the panel were Tony Thompson, an award-winning author and entrepreneur, Christina Thompson, a Privacy Manager at Mercy, Eden Tesfu, Analytics Lead at Bayer Crop Sciences, and Chris Anderson, Owner and Executive Director of Maximized Career Services. The topics of the evening included the negotiation of new offers, promotion, and perks.
Attendees learned how to draft a value statement to emphasize the “wins” and value they bring to their respective roles, how to do research on the markets they are looking for opportunities in, and what type of development can and should be negotiated. Lastly, our panelists shared information on the art of clarifying your needs and also being patient to allow time for employers to address them. One attendee shared “it’s really great that ACS is hosting these events and giving this type of information out to young professionals.” If you missed this explosive event don’t worry the next opportunity to get great information is September 27th hosted by the Young Chemist Committee (YCC). Check out calendar for details.
